My first business trip to Germany

My first business trip to Nuremberg, Germany, some lessons learnt, and some more miles racked up on the frequent flier cards.

Frequent Flier Cards

On this trip I've signed up to two more frequent flier cards, one for Air Berlin's Top Bonus card, for the airline I used to get here, and the Lufthansa's Miles & More card, for the Atrium Hotel which I stayed at.

I may not be able to get enough points on many of the cards I've got to warrant having them, but they're free, and getting something for nothing is always worth it :o)

Water

I pondered a moment about whether the tap water in my hotel room was drinkable, and what better place to find out than online, so I managed to find a few sites, one about german customs and another with technical info (not that I understand the chemicals), but they pretty much say that the tap water is drinkable, and usually even better than bottled water (as is the case in the UK) because of the strict monitoring and guidelines for tap water.

From looking at the german customs site, they mention that it's just the way germans have been brought up, not to like tap water, and drink fizzy/sparkling/carbonated/gassed (however you want to say it) water from bottles. Some habbits are hard to break I guess.

So never be fooled into buying expensive tap water in Germany again, drink from the taps :o)

In my spare time I'm an avid new technology fan, and constantly strive to find innovative uses for the new gadgets I manage to get my hands on. Most recently I've been investigating Mobile Codes, RFID and Home automation (mainly Z-Wave). With a keen eye for usability I'm attempting to create some cost-effective, DIY technology solutions which would rival even high-end retail products. The software I develop is usually released as Open Source.

I have a Finnish geek partner, so have begun the difficult task of learning Finnish.
